Ciudad Nueva Community Outreach/Launch Pad: Kids-Create: Started as a direct ministry by The Church of St. Clement in El Paso, Ciudad Nueva serves the local neighborhood by providing after-school and educational programming for area children. It also serves the local families by organizing free community events and other fun programs. The volunteer at this site works to provide some of these events as well as to plan and implement programming for the children attending Ciudad Nueva. (Skills and interests: Experience working with children, education/teaching, organizational skills, strong communication skills, recreational programming, strong interest in developing community relationships. Spanish level: Moderate to high fluency in Spanish required. Americorps status: Eligible for full-time.)

Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey: Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey ("Christ the King Lutheran Church") is a congregation that primarily consists of first-generation Mexican immigrants. Located in the heart of a low-income Hispancie district in central El Paso, Texas, Cristo Rey ministers to people on both sides of the international border and provides an inclusive place for cultures to meet and share. The volunteer at this site is principally responsible for all activities related to the Border Immersion Experience. Additional involvement includes children's ministry, after-school program, English classes, grant writing and additonal community outreach. (Skills and interests: Experience working with children, education, organizing and leading groups, organizational skills, strong communication skills, recreational programming, strong interest in developing community relationships, self-motivation.  Desire to work in a Lutheran church setting. Spanish level: Moderate to high fluency in Spanish required. Americorps status: Eligible for half-time.)

Diocesan Migrant and Refugee Services: A service ministry of the local El Paso Catholic Diocese, DMRS provides assistance to immigrants with immigration processing and legal assistance, ESL and other skills training, etc. The volunteer at this site works with immigrant victims of domestic violence who are protected under VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) from being deported. They assist victims of domestic violence who are afraid to leave their partner because they have been threatened that they will be deported. (Skills and interests: Strong communication skills, experience working with the immigrant population, interest in immigration laws and procedures, strong social justice component. Spanish level: Moderate to high fluency in Spanish required. Americorps status: Eligible for full-time.)

Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center: Las Americas provides immigration assistance at a low cost to immigrants to the United States with extenuating circumstances. Clients seeking immigration assistance at Las Americas are often unaccompanied minors, people seeking political asylum or sanctuary, VAWA or human trafficking victims, or those who simply can not afford the high costs of legal assistance for immigration issues. The volunteer at this site works to help prepare for cases before immigration court and supports the clients who are petitioning for legal status in the US. (Skills and interests: Strong communication skills, experience working with the immigrant population, interest in immigration laws and procedures, strong social justice component, self-motivation. Spanish level: Moderate to high fluency in Spanish required. Americorps status: Eligible for full-time.)

Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza: For over fifteen years, Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza has been working with underserved women and children in the urban El Paso setting offering empowerment classes including English as a Second Language, Parenting, Economic Proficiency, Spirituality, Exercise, and Arts and Crafts. Centro Mujeres “operates on the conviction that by working with women as individuals, they, as mothers, caregivers and many times, heads of households, will have a far-reaching and positive multiplying effect on their children and communities.” Volunteers working at this site have helped with organizing and teaching classes and doing community education on Fair Trade and supporting local communities. (Skills and interests: Strong communication skills, experience working with the immigrant population, arts education, community organizing and teaching, leading discussion groups. Spanish level: Moderate to high fluency in Spanish required. Americorps status: Eligible for full-time.)
